This is a simple online tool which uses lookup tables pre-calculated using the spectra from Poludniowski et al. (2021). The program provides an estimated filtration from a measured HVL or, alternatively, the HVL from a nominal filtration. It is applicable for the exit beam of x-ray tubes only.
Bujila, Omar and Poludniowski (2020) showed that Poludniowski's spectra produced better agreement with the NIST experimental values for HVL than the IPEM 78 spectra. There are therefore expected to be some slight differences in the results obtained with this software when compared to IPEM report 78. However, any differences in the estimated filtration are likely to be less than the uncertainty on the measured values.
Note that the lookup tables for this site are estimated filtrations from nominal HVLs. This means that estimated filtrations can be determined in a single step. However, when estimating the HVL for a given nominal filtration an iterative calculation msut be undertaken and so this may take longer.
